Ethical business practices

SDG 12

Why is this a theme for VLG?

Integrity is an important Van Loon Group core value. An organisation with integrity respects legislation, human and labour rights, minimises social and environmental risks, and is ethically managed. Acting without integrity poses a reputational risk to both the company and the industry.

Scope

We ensure an ethical internal organisational structure and offer stakeholders the opportunity to report any complaints about this.

Our policy

Van Loon Group strives to ensure our actions and employees are beyond reproach. We place great importance on integrity and transparency, from our employees and in our products. To safeguard this as independently as possible, we have implemented internal and external whistleblower policies. Employees can make use of this if they encounter potential misconduct and/or irregularities in relation to compliance with laws and regulations, food safety, or product claims.

Numerous societal and political issues surround animal welfare, fraud, climate change, and social injustices. The food industry in general - and the meat sector in particular - is under scrutiny. We are fully aware of this and demonstrate that we stand for integrity.

Activities 2024

Last year, one case of fraud was identified. The employee involved was summarily dismissed. In response to this fraud case, job authorisations have been revised and contract arrangements with service providers are now centrally managed through HR or Procurement departments.

Planned training on corruption and bribery did not take place in 2024. We will resume this in 2025. In 2024, there were no records of theft within our organisation.

Looking ahead to next year

In 2025, we aim to keep strengthening the integrity of our working environment. An important step in this is establishing a standard procedure for recording cases of fraud and theft. This will enable a structured approach and improved follow-up of incidents.

In addition, we will provide training for management and supervisors in the areas of anti-corruption and bribery. The goal is to raise awareness of how we, as Van Loon Group, deal with corruption and bribery, fraud, and theft – and how we can recognise and prevent this.
