Sustainable production

Sustainable production is our standard. We aim to produce as efficiently as possible, with the lowest achievable environmental impact. To put this into practice, we joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2023. The SBTi has validated and approved our CO₂ reduction targets for 2030. These ambitious targets align with the Paris Climate Agreement goal of limiting global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C.

By using blockchain, Van Loon Group, together with its pig farmers and chain partners, has chosen a secure, auditable way to record data. In essence, it’s 'technology with a timestamp.' We talk about this with Sjoerd Gerrits from Boven-Leeuwen.

Sjoerd Gerrits

The value of blockchain

Sjoerd has been involved with the family business since the age of 12. Now, at 24, he is running a farm that has more than 4,000 pigs with his father and brother. After a brief foray into cattle and poultry and studying animal husbandry at HAS University of Applied Sciences in 's-Hertogenbosch, where he focused on data analysis and continuous monitoring, Sjoerd is fully active in the thriving family business.

Chain management and corporate Integrity

A sustainable, animal-friendly enterprise can only be successfully achieved if this approach is anchored throughout the entire chain. As chain director, we ensure that every link in the chain properly implements the required methods. Furthermore, we are committed to reducing environmental impact and promoting fair revenue models for farmers and supply-chain partners. We aim for transparency and integrity across all aspects of our operations.

Project 'Tail Challenge'

At Van Loon Group, we believe in the power of collaboration and innovation to create a better future for pig farming. One key project that aligns perfectly with this vision is the Tail Challenge. This initiative, supported by the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) and co-funded by the European Union, aims to improve pig welfare by ending the practice of tail docking.
